The McKay Timber 2000 Glenorchy Open tennis tournament was an outstanding success in our fourth year of operation. With an increase in our level of sponsorship guaranteed for the next three years we are confident of continuing to host one of the premier tournaments on the State Calendar.
Sam Swan was a popular and comfortable winner of the mens open. His overall strength and terrific serve enabled to overcome Nathan LeFevre in a very entertaining final. The ladies open saw Anna Cowen from Geelong and Mandy Smith blitz all opposition on the way to the final where Anna was successful in her first Glenorchy Open singles final. In the open mixed, the Bailey girls fought it out (on opposite sides?!) with Sam and Nathan with Gillie and Nathan prevailing in 3 sets after an excellent exhibition of mixed doubles tennis.
